Kidz Med No Contact Thermometer

I was asked to review the Kidz Med VeraTemp No-Contact Thermometer, and I jumped on board to test it out. The timing could not have been better…or worse, depending on your point of view. Monkey #1, Donovan, had viral pharyngitis and with it a temp that stayed around 102 degrees and had no intentions of going down. Monkey #2, Jacob, decided to wait until big brother got sick to come down with croup…wasn’t that sweet of him? So here I am with a 5 year old and an 11 month old, both running fevers and not really wanting to be bothered, and both are needing their temps taken fairly regularly, every hour or so, at least.

Comprised of the most advanced technology in thermometry known today, the NEW Kidz-Med VeraTemp™ Non-Contact provides Mom’s with the comfort of using a trusted device at a time when reliability is essential. This "no-touch" thermometer’s proven accuracy, ease-of-use and instant reading ability eliminates any uneasiness that comes along with obtaining the temperature of an infant or toddler.

  • No need to touch, startle, upset or wake your child completely touch free!
  • Pediatrician recommended
  • Proven accuracy
  • Safe, hygienic and easy to use
  • Instant reading: measures temperature in the time it takes you to press the button!
  • Back-lit LED display, take temperature in the dark while child is sleeping
  • No probe covers needed
  • Multi-Use: measures any temperature including core body temperature, nursery, bath, formula, food
  • Celsius or Fahrenheit
  • Affordable

I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical. I’m familiar with the various types of thermometers out there, and for something to claim to be accurate without touching the child seemed a bit of a stretch. So when the Kidz-Med Vera Temp came in the mail, WITH batteries, boy did I do a little dance. I loaded the batteries in it, set it to “Body”, grabbed my trusty digital thermometer, and hunted down two little boys.

First reading on Donovan (monkey #1) was 101.7 with the Kidz Med thermometer scanning his forehead roughly 2-3 inches away from the surface of the skin. Then I took the temperature again with my digital thermometer to double check and the results were 101.7.

Really? I have GOT to do that again.

Found Jacob (monkey #2), and checked his temperature with the Kidz Med Non-contact thermometer.  100.4. Ok…I took the temperature again with my digital thermometer ; 100.3…one tenth of a degree off. Not too shabby.

Over the course of the week, I used the Kidz Med Vera Temp Non-Contact thermometer countless times, checking the boys temps while they were piled up on the couch watching TV, napping, and once while Donovan was in the tub. When I would doubt myself and the Kidz Med No Contact thermometer and bring out my digital thermometer to double check the results, I was never more than two-tenths of a degree off, and that only happened once…most of the time it was dead on with the Non-contact thermometer.

I’ve had to chase my Husband away from this thing, because once he discovered that he could check the temp of his fish tank, Jacob’s bath water, outside, and Chuy, my Yorkshire Terrier, he was like a kid in a candy store. Really pretty funny. Overall I give this thermometer an A+++ for accuracy, ease, and the fact that it made the boys in my life a little bit happier.

My favorite feature is that it’s no-touch! My grandson HATES getting his temperature taken, and what I think he hates most is sitting still for so long while I stick it under his arm pit.

My favorite thing is that you don’t have to wake a sleepy, miserable monkey to take their temp. They need sleep to heal. I know thats kinda the obvious answer so I also love that it is instant, and that you can check the temp of baby food or Milk! I tried to tell DH and older DD to taste the milk to check its temp while I am at work they thought I was nuts! LOL!
I also have to say that my HUBBY HATES taking his temp so I can get him in his sleep without him knowing! so awesome!

Wow, this is so cool! I love that you don’t even have to touch to get a temp! Plus, the LED display would be a lot easier to read than other thermometers (good for us partially blind moms :) )

My favorite feature is how hygenic it is since it is no-contact. Can’t stand reusing an oral thermometer in the house during flu season even if we do steralize it between uses. It makes me very nervous.

I have never been any good at taking temperatures, when I had kids all we had were mercury and I could never read them. I just started relying on my hand. But with my grandchildren I get more nervous and as I get older my hands get colder faster so I never trust myself. This would be great to use.
