I’m a Kansas City girl, home of the Applebee’s Headquarters, and one of the trademarks of driving down 435 highway in Kansas was the big Applebee’s sign that was facing into the highway.
Last year the Applebee’s headquarters was moved out of Kansas and over to the Missouri side, this was my first look at the new building.
Words can’t even describe how beautiful their headquarters, inside and out!
We took a tour of the building and I was awe struck of their brightly colored walls, TV screens that displayed their social media profiles, break rooms that served Starbucks Coffee and Slurpees, and history of Applebee’s spread out over the entire campus.
We learned a lot of fascinating information about the history behind Applebee’s.
Dine Equity is the owner of both Applebee’s and IHOP, making them sister companies.
After our tour, we were greeting by Applebee’s top 2 chefs who bring the ideations to life.
Did you know that a recipe idea can take 12-18 months to go from idea to menu? There is so much that goes behind each menu item that I had no idea of the work involved!
These guys were crazy talented and I tried to get them to come cook for me at home.. they didn’t go for it.
We moved on to each of the new dishes that are showing up on Applebee’s menus everywhere, starting today!
This dish is one of the new creations on the Applebee’s 550 Menu, Sizzling Asian Shrimp & Broccoli
The sizzling of this meal was heard coming from the other room. I LOVE shrimp and this was delicious!
If you like a little spice to your meal this dish has it, not over powering but enough to make you reach for a drink a time or two.
This dish was another Sizzler…
The Sizzling Chili Lime Chicken. This is not something that I would have ordered from the menu at the restaurant. Maybe it’s the word lime that made me think this wouldn’t be that great.
When I tried this meal, my mouth was simply watering for more. The lime is not over powering at all and the vegetables were so crisp. I really enjoyed this dish!
This one was my favorite of them all!
The Roasted Garlic Sirloin.
While the steak and onions were fabulous together, the best part was the stuffed mushroom cap.
Have you tasted the spinach artichoke dip from their appetizer menu?
Imagine that spinach gooey goodness packed inside of a perfectly cooked mushroom. This was mouth watering delicious!
Signature Sirloin & Garlic Herb Shrimp
This steak was juicy, amazingly good. I’m not much of a steak person but the garlic cream sauce topped with Shrimp made this dish crazy good!
Topped with diced tomatoes and slivered almonds, sided with herbed potatoes and fresh veggies.
We all stood around, admiring the food, the headquarters building, and all of our new friends that we just made.
I don’t know how they made these dishes with 550 calories but they were all great!
Also on the new menu, the Applebee’s Skinnybee Margarita!
100 calories… that’s it!
I really prefer my margaritas to be frozen however, this was really tasty and I loved that it didn’t leave a nasty aftertaste that some alcoholic drinks seems to do.
The day ended with a tour of the top secret testing kitchen, a taste test of the new Weight Watchers menu items and a surprise birthday treat from the Applebee’s staff members.
I really enjoyed all of the food and can’t wait to get to Applebee’s again to taste it in the restaurant. My choice will definitely be the Roasted Garlic Sirloin Steak. Mmmmmm
